WORDs of Saving Grace - the anointed King
1 Chronicles 11:3 Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD by Samuel.
The anointing of the King is a tremendous event. This would signify hope and prosperity for the future and not tyranny and slavery (Romans 13:3).
Anointing represents the presence and power of God upon a leader. Because it is God who raises up leaders and places them in authority. And to resist authority is resistance (rebellion) against God (Romans 13:1, 2).
Through history there have been many leaders anointed or even sworn to office. But one King has been anointed above all. When was He anointed? (Matthew 3:16)
However unlike many kings, Jesus was made king to become as a servant and die for the sin of the world (Philippians 2:8). And this title and anointing of King followed Him from the grave to the cross (Matthew 2:2, Matthew 27:37).
The Son of God - that is God in flesh - was anointed above all, and His kingdom will last forever
Hebrews 1:8-9
8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
