My portion

WORDs of Saving Grace - my portion

Lamentations 3:24  The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
The term portion refers to inheritance or a award that is received. It is used as dividing up land to benefactors in a will. So how is the LORD our inheritance and award? Well, He told Abraham this very same thing (Genesis 15:1).

Righteousness was imputed (accounted) to Abraham by God, because he believed God (Genesis 15:6). Righteousness in the hebrew צְדָקָה tsdaqah is an attribute of God and is a justified salvation from God to the recipient by God's own law and justification. Wow what an award!

But this was only a type and shadow of what was to come in the fulfillment of Jesus Christ. Because the imputed righteousness from God to sinners by faith accounts God's actual righteousness to the sinners indebted account, and the indebted account is attributed to Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

So when we say "the LORD is my portion", we are literally saying I have been given the righteousness of God in my heavenly account!

"He is our portion and we are his prize"
